Majorette

High-hats shimmer
in waves from the sun

I beat the road
search my true rhythm

Enough to sustain me
another year another month

I have staying power
like Oregon rainfalls that
flood the tuberoses

Petals yellow before they fall
Too much water is no good
Too much anything

I had found sleep again
in the roaring fans
and TV drones of films

Now I hold my breath
dream of painless daffodils
and pygmalions

Rat-a-tat i've become beggar
marching to the steps of
majorettes

I'll make my way past
plenty into severance pay
I'll cut off the knot of eternity

Tears of joy like raindrops
Plastic bags of stem remnants
I'm pruned and ready to go
