Somewhere between the roar
of tankers on the river
and cars on the highway above my head,
the sweetest song i ever heard
started up from the laurel bushes,
a sudden trill of notes that
shattered the bitter mechanics:
i took it for a visit from your soul
and i swooned, mad for you ...
