"Midsummer Eve" by Edward Robert Hughes
If I follow her light
will I find myself in a forest
birch and brattle
fern and folly?
She turns quickly in the air
shining her smile on me
then disappears
in a wisp of willow.
Does she beckon or taunt
letting me know
she is uncatchable?
Ay ay ay!
I chase like Diana
after the wild deer.
She is something
to be desired but
never possessed.
